About Me

Hi, I’m Lauren, a senior physiotherapist with years of experience working with a wide range of injuries and illnesses. I provide evidence-based, holistic, and patient-centered care.

A few years ago I was an age-group competitive long distance triathlete, while working full time as a physio. I had a run of bad luck - injury, multiple viruses close to each other, life stress. Within a few months of comfortably running 30km, I was using a wheelchair, with mum moving in to look after me. When I say I know health on both ends of the spectrum, I mean it. I’m going really well now - but I’m not forgetting what got me here. I’ve changed forever as a person, and as a health professional, and I’m not turning back.

My experience in living with a sudden-onset chronic illness gave me a few clear takeaways. I learned how incredibly overwhelming and scary it is. I saw how it bought out the best and worst in me. I learned that patients are not always listened to. I was shocked and disappointed that, one month, my opinion as a physio was sought out by health professionals; the next, sitting in the patient seat, I was dismissed, and regularly given what I knew to be incorrect, even dangerous advice. My experience inspired me to dedicate my career to helping those also living with a chronic illness, or chronic pain.

I want to be the health professional who listens and helps you on your own journey. I feel privileged to be part of my patients’ journeys because I know how important, life-changing, and difficult this journey can be. My emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical supports were broken down, but over time, with lots of hard work and help from the right people, I rebuilt them. I’m building my life back up, and can see all the ways my illness and experiences from this have changed me fundamentally, for the better.

Outside of work, my interests are having a bit of a mid-life crisis. I love triathlon, and own 6 bicycles and 10+ pairs of running shoes. I come from a hiking family, and have been in more hiking huts than hotels (something I’m proud of!). My recovery time has given me the opportunity to explore my other passions: art, pottery, reading, and playing guitar. In April 2025 I moved with my husband Adam to rural Southland, for (hopefully!) a simpler, healthier, and more fulfilling life. I’m a huge nature lover, and am passionate about NZ conservation.

My journey, as a physio, an athlete and exercise lover, to severe illness and recovery, has given me unique insight and knowledge into the body and illness. I didn’t love the whole journey, but I love where it’s gotten me.

A good health professional can make all the difference - I hope I can make that difference for you.
